Jesse Williams & the internet hilariously mock Melania Trump's plagiarized speech
This is: #FamousMelaniaTrumpQuotes
The Republican National Convention has only been underway for one day and already the Internet Gods (and the sideshow that is Donald Trump and his politics) have blessed us with a hashtag and it is the gift that keeps on giving.
After journalist Jarrett Hill discovered that Donald Trump’s wife Melania’s opening night speech sounded uncomfortably similar to—okay, like plagiarism of—the one Michelle Obama delivered back in 2008 at the Democratic National Convention, forever “woke” actor Jesse Williams created the #FamousMelaniaTrumpQuotes on Twitter, mockingly giving credit to the model for quotes that so obviously do not belong to her, from Sojourner Truth to En Vogue.
And while Williams himself offered up more than 20 jokes, more public figures, from activists to comedians, have joined in on the fun. Read ’em and weep (tears of joy).
Melania has since released a statement that didn’t entirely deny the alleged plagiarism, but that claims that her speech “reflected her own thinking.”
