"Power": Four things to look out for in Season 3
Lobos, Ghost vs. Tommy, and where’s Kanan?
Death, betrayal and bad bargains were some of the many elements involved in the last season of Power that took things from bubbling to boiling hot. But for the third run, beginning tonight (July 17) on Starz, expect all that pressure to bust pipes. And most of this combustion, so to speak, is directed toward James St. Patrick, a.k.a Ghost (played by Omari Hardwick), who finds himself in the most compromising position in season three, which is foreshadowed in the teaser: “Ghost Must Die.”
So as all eyes peer Ghost’s way, and questions raise regarding the movtives of Tommy (Joseph Sikora), Angela (Lela Loren) and Tasha (Naturi Naughton) after last season, allow us to set the scene for the new season without any major spoilers.
What’s love (got to do with it)
Since season one, we’ve come to realize how deeply in love Ghost is with Agent Angela Valdes. The last two seasons saw them grow as a couple and also come into realization of the damage that can transpire if their respective careers were to ever clash. Still, they try to make the best of it this season, but once again recognize that their relationship won’t be easy. Also don’t forget, the man named Jamie still married to his wife Tasha. “They’re morally opposed,” Lela Loren told REVOLT. “There isn’t a piece of Angela that’s like, ‘It’s okay if you sell drugs and kill people.’ That’s just not okay for her.” Hardwick, who plays Ghost, also added that his character “has got to be careful for what he wishes for.” All of these challenges quickly come to a head in tonight’s episode. How does Tasha deal with this? Plus, not only that, also keep in mind of their kids?
In season three, viewers will finally get to see Tommy Egan make the jump from beta to alpha. After playing sidekick to Ghost for much of the series, Egan steps up to the plate as ace. But like every new promotion, there comes new risks and challenges, which in this case involves going against your childhood friend.
“I think Tommy doesn’t ever see a way out,” explained Joseph Sikora. “He doesn’t search for one. Tommy is the most loyal, sometimes to a fault, not only to his relationship with Ghost, which is now totally broken — but finally we saw that the rubberband cannot be pulled any further and it snapped and Tommy snapped.” Ghost isn’t the only one that Tommy has to deal with in Season 3, there’s also his romantic relationship with Holly Weaver. Just like last season, expect the latter to spice things up in Egan’s rise to power and war with his old friend.
Where is Lobos?
Ghost is aware Lobos wants him dead, but most of the questions raised this season will be on the latter’s motives. We saw him arrested last season and witnessed a failed attempt on his life. But even while locked up, the master behind the mind games still manages to strike a fear that has everyone from Ghost to Tommy, Angela and Weaver on edge.
A major factor within the previous seasons, Kanan will be on everyone’s mind in Season 3. Did he successfully recover from the injuries inflicted in the fiery finale of last season? Despite appearing in the trailer, is he dead? All of this gets answered tonight, but we must add that a new character will be making their debut, thus adding a new level of explosiveness to the gritty new season.
