Spotlight on REVOLT: Derin Falana "The Pick Up"

  /  06.27.2016

Meet Derin Falana.

He’s a 22-year old rapper/dancer from Brampton, ON AKA the suburbs of Toronto, the city that’s home to stars like Alessia Cara and Pryde, and has been hit with epidemics of depression and suicide over the past few years. But growing up, Derin and his crew, ViniciCircle, always looked to find a way to escape. Idolizing Chris Brown, Falana knew he wanted to entertain, so he dove into dance and he slowly found his way rap towards the end of high school.

Shortly after, he premiered his debut mixtape 905, a project that Falana made for both his city and himself to be recognized for their talents.

While the response to the project was positive, he still felt like there was more he needed in life. The mundane reality of suburban life was setting in: go to college, pay off your debt, go to the same five places at night, start over. So the inspiration arrived for his latest project, Live From Rocky Mountain. The cover (created by 7th Kind and REVOLT alumni Nicholas Fulcher), is inspired by the book “Where The Wild Things Are.” The image is a perfect representation of the mixtape as a whole. Derin has imagined a world that he wishes he could live in and now is doing everything he can to take him and everyone from Brampton there.
