With Chadwick Boseman and Michael B. Jordan set to appear in the upcoming Black Panther film, Ryan Coogler slated to direct it, and Lupita Nyong’o rumored to be cast alongside them, in addition to Dope director Rick Famuyiwa being hired to helm The Flash, and Young Thug rumored to be contributing to the Suicide Squad soundtrack, of which Will Smith stars, one could say it’s been a banner year for Black comic book fans.

Donald Glover (a.k.a. Childish Gambino) is now adding to this long list of anticipated projects having just joined the cast of 2017’s Spider-Man: Homecoming, according to Deadline.

Six years ago, fans of the rapper/actor rallied to get Glover cast in the lead role of The Amazing Spider-Man, frequently using the hashtag #donaldforspiderman on social media networks as a means to gain support. The role eventually went to Andrew Garfield instead, but Glover went on to briefly voice the superhero on Disney XD’s animated series Ultimate Spider-Man for its third season, “Web Warriors.”

There’s no word on what role Glover will play in this new film—the lead role has been handed to actor Tom Holland—but it’s confirmed that Zendaya will appear in the big screen picture, as well.

In the meantime, Glover’s highly anticipated FX series Atlanta, of which he is creator, executive producer and star, will officially premiere this summer.
