Drake Drops Off Three-Song Package On OVO Sound Radio
New tracks with Gucci Mane, Justin Bieber and more.
Episode 23 of Drake’s OVO Sound Radio on Apple’s Beats 1 was jumping like Michael Jordan.
During the two-hour mix, which featured the OVO Sound captain himself Drake taking over the first 60 mins, with guest Rory Woods handling hour two, a slew of premieres were liberated. Among the new tunes, Gucci Mane number featuring Drake called “Back on Road,” the highly-anticipated “One Dance” remix featuring Justin Bieber and “4PM In Calabasas.” Overall, tonight’s (June 4) episode confirmed comments made by Drake the last time he appeared on OVO Sound Radio: “I got other songs I got this summer. By the time I get to the tour, I’m going to have a whole arsenal of songs that don’t even have to do with Views.”
On “Back On Road,” Gucci Mane continues what’s been an epic prison comeback, following appearances on records by Mike WiLL Made-it and Kanye West. Newly free, the rapper rides through his homecoming parade over this rollicking Murda Beatz-produced monster as Drake serves up the hook.
After snippets hit online earlier in the week, the full version of Drake and Bieber’s eagerly-anticipated “One Dance” remix was also liberated, featuring new vocals from the “Sorry” singer. “You give the baddest one in here a run for their money,” sings the Biebs, who opens the song.
To close out his set, Drake delivered the fadeaway jump shot on “4PM In Calabasas.” As Vinylz, Frank Dukes, and Allen Ritter handle production, Drizzy delivers an endless load of bars and moments. He borrows flows from Ma$e (“He be like Drake would please stop smoking la la, Chubbs why try? I’ma thug, I’ma die high”), name-checks 2Pac, Michael Jackson (“Mike never tried to rap like ‘Pac, ‘Pac never tried to sing like Mike”) and SWV (“You SWV because you’re so weak and I’m always on your mind”), and overall ends up sewing himself up another one of dem ones. “Y’all shook up, I’m here on the cook up….”
