Freddie Gibbs Arrested In France For Alleged 2015 Rape
An attorney for the rapper emphatically denies the charges.
Indiana-bred rapper Freddie Gibbs was arrested on Thursday (June 2) in Toulouse, France on an alleged rape charge that took place in 2015. According to French news outlet La Depeche du Midi, the rapper, born Fredrick Tipton, was “wanted in connection with a European arrest warrant issued by Austria for a rape allegedly committed in 2015.” The source also reports that Gibbs was taken into custody right before a scheduled concert was set to take place at Le Rex in Toulouse this week.
In an issued press release, Gibbs’ attorney Scott Leemon, states: “Freddie Gibbs adamantly denies the allegations that have been levied against by Austrian authorities. It makes you wonder why it took almost a year for Austrian officials to bring these charges.”
The rapper reportedly stood before a judge in France on Friday (June 3). “Freddie will be fighting the extradition request as these are nothing more than trumped up charges,” Leemon continued.
As per his website, these next couple of days find Gibbs set for shows in London, France, Portugal and Canada.
