Young Dro Parts Ways With Grand Hustle, Drops 'Phoenix' EP
“When you cast me down, I come back out on fire.”
Young Dro is ready to rise like a phoenix.
After spending 10 years with T.I.’s Grand Hustle Entertainment imprint, wherein he dropped his 2006 debut Best Thang Smokin’, Dro is moving on to a new career chapter. Parting ways amicably, Dro has since launched a new imprint and new music. As his new journey begins, the rapper recalled the steps that lead to this new point. “A lot of things went on when I was signed to my last deal,” he said.
“A lot of people really downplayed who I am and what I do for a living. A lot of people don’t want to see me in the position that I’m headed toward right now. A lot of people might think lesser than and it’s not like that, I’m the phoenix.”
So to properly kick things off in style, Dro launched his label Grit Game Records and earlier this week released the mixtape, Phoenix— an apt way to describe the current space the rapper is right now. “Phoenix speaks for itself,” he said. “When you cast me down, I come back out on fire.”
