DJ Khaled Finds Drake For Bouncy New Single, "For Free"
Khaled and Drake return to give the summer some.
As DJ Khaled continues to run laps around 2016, the We The Best capo tags in fellow year MVP Drake for another one.
Following up their past summer smashes (“I’m On One,” “No New Friends”), the winning duo pick up where they left off on “For Free,” the lead single off Khaled’s upcoming album Major Key. Over springy production, handled by Nineteen85 and Jordan Ullman, Drizzy and his languid flow bounce on this track like a basketball. Pulling inspiration from Too $hort’s “Blow The Whistle” and Kendrick Lamar’s “For Free?”
“They don’t want me to have another anthem,” Khaled advises on the made-for-summer track. “So I made sure I got another anthem. It’s We the Best, OVO. The summer’s ours.”
The result? Something “so, so good.”
Speaking to Zane Lowe on Apple Music’s Beats 1 radio, Khaled revealed the record will be one of many anthems on the 12-track LP. As far as features go, Kanye West, Lil Wayne, Rick Ross, Bryson Tiller, Big Sean and the much-anticipated Jay Z & Future collab (titled “I Got The Keys”).
