NEW YORK, NY — Fans gathered inside a sold-out (Le) Poisson Rouge on Thursday night (May 26) to see R&B crooner, JMSN, take the stage and rock out to a plethora of his hits, both old and new. Kicking off the show with bangers from his new album, It Is, the lively audience sang along with JMSN’s crisp, sultry voice as he owned the stage in his nifty, blue faux fur.

Although everyone in the room only had eyes for the Detroit native he quickly introduced us to his belting backing vocalist, Madison, and his effervescent band who both filled the room with great energy and power. The propulsive rhythm and fills of the drums, keys, guitar, tambourine and bass came in one-by-one as they filled the room with island vibes, to help JMNS perform his new hit single, “Hypnotized.”

The man of the evening eventually transitioned back into his bluesy, soulful style with “Addicted” and “Street Sweeper” from his 2014 self titled album, also known as the “Blue Album,” where he stroked the electric cords on his guitar as he sang. As if the engaged crowd wasn’t already enjoying themselves enough, they went wild once JMSN mentioned that one word/album that all of his fans absolutely love, Priscilla. With bobbing heads and closed eyes the crowd rocked out to “Do U Remember The Time.”

Nevertheless, all eyes and ears opened once the singer transitioned into yet another fan favorite “Funk Outta Here.” This song also seemed to be one of JMSN’s favorites, as he danced uncontrollably, waving his mic in the air chanting “Get the funk outta here with that bullshit.” Everything from the purple misty lighting to the show stopping, brisk saxophone solo gave this performance an undeniable groove that had fans—and JMSN himself—unable to sit still.

With the enjoyable synergy going around the audience let out loud grunts when JMSN announced that he would be performing his final song, “Cruel Intentions.” In my eyes, it was the best performance of the night (being that it’s my favorite song off of his new album). He grabbed his guitar, again, and proceeded to sing his heart out as passion reeked through his body bringing him to his knees as he sang “At the end of the day, I just want some attention/With all this empty space, we’ve got such cruel intentions,” in his unique, high-vibrato tone. The live band took off once again, breaking off into their particular solo’s while flashing lights accented the stage as JMSN tried to bring the show to a close.

However, they weren’t letting him get away that easy. The audience wanted an encore. After JMSN left the stage they began chanting his name wildly until he returned. To our satisfaction he told us he had time for one more song. “Are y’all ready to help me sing this?” he teased as they all screamed ready to try and harmonize whatever he threw our way. Once the the drummer began beating on the hi-hat cymbals we knew what time it was. JMSN had returned to end his show with 2014 hit single “Bout It.”

Filling the stage with endless positive vibes he danced and owned the stage as the audience sang and clapped along confidently singing “I’m Bout It!” After the song ended everyone rocked out to the music for a few until the show was brought to a sensational close.

If it’s one thing you should know about this multi-instrumentalist, soulful singer it’s that he gives one hell of a live performance! Check out some footage from last night’s performance below.
