Despite the fact that Kanye West has released an entirely new album since 2013’s Yeezus, the rapper is still being sued over one of its tracks.
Gabor Presser, a Hungarian rock singer and composer, is suing West, alleging that at least one-third of “New Slaves” samples an unauthorized copy of Presser’s “Gyongyhaju Lany,” a song he wrote in 1969 and that he claims is “one of the most beloved pop songs in Hungary and across Eastern Europe.”
According to TMZ, Presser says that though West initially reached out for permission to use the song and sent him a $10K advance to solidify the deal, Presser never cashed the check.
He has now filed the complaint in a Manhattan court and is seeking $2.5 million for copyright infringement.
