Production duo Needlz & Donut have an odd story on how they met initially, but their in-studio chemistry is undeniable. Whoever could have predicted that a MPC4000 sale would turn into a tandem, who would produce a No. 1 record in the country should play lotto.
The pair first joined forces a few years ago after Donut reached out to Needlz to see if he could send over some beats. Impressed, the 14-time platinum producer Needlz decided to entertain the idea of working with Donut and, well, the rest was history.
Needlz & Donut credit their joint success to the fact that they excel where they feel other producers lack. These days, the duo is a conjoined force that provides a platform of sound for artists to float over. Most recently they have churned out Jeremih’s ubiquitous hit “Oui.” Oui, pronounced ‘we’ as a play on words, pays homage to the classic R&B group Shai and the song “If I Ever Fall In Love.” It’s also a standout track from Jeremih’s Late Nights: The Album.
With all that said, oui (see what I did there) caught up with Needlz & Donut to discuss everything from their first meet up, the success of their No. 1 single for Jeremih, and what’s to come from here on out.
