Alicia Keys makes quite the impression on her first new solo single since 2012’s “Girl On Fire.”
Evolving from the piano-based, R&B-y ballads from her last album, the new single, called “In Common,” finds Key’s further polishing her sweet vocals; this time over airy dancehall confection. The rhythmic stylings of the record is similar to the tropical flavor exuded in recent hits like Justin Bieber’s “Sorry,” Drake’s “One Dance,” and Rihanna’s “Work.”
The single is Alicia’s first release in four years, taken from her upcoming sixth studio album, which is due later this summer on RCA Records. The song is written by Alicia Keys, Illangelo, Tayla Parks, Billy Walsh and produced by Illangelo, who happens to be Weeknd’s longtime Grammy-Award winning producer.
In a statement for the single, RCA Records confirmed Alicia’s upcoming album will reflect her roots in the Big Apple and hip-hop culture “while blending her perspective of the raw humanity of the world and who she is today as an activist, woman and artist.”
Keys is set to debut “In Common” on Saturday Night Live this weekend. Stream it below.
