New Music Roundup: Popcaan, Cliff Savage & Boosie Badazz
Today’s best tunes.
Popcaan, “Ova Dweet”
No one knows quite sure why Drake removed Popcaan from “Controlla,” one of his singles from Views. But, listeners shouldn’t be too sad considering the dancehall artist revealed his latest single “Ova Dweet.” The song holds true to Popcaan’s sound: Jamacian dancehall. Might as well ride the built-up dancehall wave right into the summer! (Thank you Rihanna and Drake) —Erin Ashley Simon
Cliff Savage, “Play For Keeps”
Long Beach, CA-based artist Cliff Savage dropped another buzzing track in “Play For Keeps.” After premiering on LA Leakers’ #LeakShow on Shade 45, the song instantly received over 10K plays. Cliff has been riding a heatwave since the release of his song “Uber,” which on SoundCloud alone has over 240K plays. Keep an eye out on him, his consistency is solid. —E.A.S.
Boosie Badazz, “Family Rules”
Boosie Badazz is all about family first on his latest single, “Family Rules.” Following his “Private Room” track, the Louisiana rapper opens the windows to his home to talk about his brand of family values. “Thanksgiving dinner,” he raps. “Shit, that’s what we love about/ Taking family pictures, fucking right we want our cousin out.” He continues to stress the importance of prayer, forgiveness and balancing a healthy home for his children and family. Boosie is also planning his first annual “Sittin’ Pretty Mother’s Day Celebration” at his home this year. Posting to Instagram, “It’s gonna be big. We’ve got a lot of celebrity moms that’s gonna be guest speakers.” —Shanté Merida
