New Music Roundup: A$AP Ferg, Vanic, Fat Joe
A sampling of today’s best tunes.
A$AP Ferg, “FLEM”
This is what hip-hop sounds like A$AP Mob and Pro Era come together like Nike Airs and crisp tees on this refreshingly dope collab. Titled “FLEM,” the song couldn’t have been named anything else. With Ferg spitting on level 10 and Kirk Knight producing a beat that crackles like a bag of Lays chips, the result is nothing else but hip-hop — and ya don’t stop. Hit play and do like Ferg says: “Feel this vibration through ya feet.” — Ralph Bristout
K.Flay, “FML” (Vanic Remix)
K.Flay’s track “FML” was already a good track to begin with, but Vanic really added that necessary “fuck my life” spin to it. Whenever that term is said, blood pressures rise, stress levels increase, hearts beat faster, all which is symphonically noted in Vanic’s rendition. The increased tempo and additional synth elements musically show the every changing thoughts that we as people have when things are going well and when things aren’t. If it’s a good day, “I love my life,” and if it’s a bad day, “fuck my life.” Hopefully, this song will make a bad day good, and a good day better.” — Erin Ashley Simon
Fat Joe, “Love You To Pieces” Feat. Bryson Tiller
Valentine’s Day isn’t anywhere near on this year’s calendar, but Fat Joe recruits Bryson Tiller for a romantic number that should definitely highlight next year’s holiday, or your summer wedding. Tiller’s velvety hook allows Joey Crack to go full head over heels, rapping lines like “Soulmates are like diamonds/ You never can make them, you got to find them.” This is definitely Netflix & Chill music. — Ralph Bristout
