Remembering Prince’s Pinnacle: ‘Purple Rain’

According to www.deadline.com, over 160 theaters will bring the cult favorite to the big screen once again.

Chains as large as AMC and indie distributors including Carmike Cinemas are set to push the film, which is remembered as the launching pad for Prince, where he went from a star artist and multi-instrumentalist to a global superstar.

The film grew in mythology over the years as debates raged whether the plot was autobiographical: tortured musician who battled issues with his parents.

In addition to theater screenings, VH1 is set to broadcast the film tonight (April 22) and NBC and ABC are scheduled to air hour-long tributes to the Paisley Park legend.

Earlier today, REVOLT revisited Prince’s pinnacle in a published piece by veteran music writer Amy Linden, who called “Purple Rain” cliched, but expressed “but damn if “Purple Rain”doesn’t breath life into every damn one of those tired plot lines. And, it goes without saying that the musical performances are mesmerizing and feature the best band that Prince ever had, namely The Revolution.”
