Is a new Jay Z album on the horizon? Should we expect new music this year? Truthfully, besides Tidal and the casual cameos he makes in Beyoncé’s snap shots, the only real output from Jay these days are the ever-stacking speculation on new music.
While the signs of a new album is evident, the other word that gets consistently tossed around is who will he bless with a Mr. Carter stimulus package this year? So far, fans received two verses from Hov this year — one for Khaled, half for Drizzy. However, if you piece them together, collectively they add up to a bar. Things could change soon though, because N.O.R.E. recently told VIBE that a new Hov verse could soon land on Fat Joe and Remy Ma’s booming hit “All the Way Up.”
Recalling a conversation with Jay’s longtime pal Memphis Bleek, the Queens rapper teased that “something great for the city” is in the works. “We can’t announce it now. But we connected two dots… and without me and Bleek, them dots wouldn’t be connected,” he hinted, before adding, “It looks like it’s going to happen.” Without going any further, N.O.R.E. gave a strong indication that the world will not only get the first Fat Joe and Hov collaboration, but an incoming verse from the rap phenom.
With both excitement and uncertainty in the air, we decided to list a couple other names expected to land a Jay Z feature.
DJ Khaled w/ Future
Earlier this week, producer Southside revealed some details about Khaled’s next single, which apparently features both Jay Z and Future. The “Illest Motherf—ker Alive” beatsmith disclosed that Jake One and G-Coup would also handle production on the record. The record should appear on Khaled’s upcoming Epic Records debut, Major Key.
Beyoncé Joint LP
Ever since DJ Skee struck up the speculation, which was later confirmed by producer and songwriter Detail, the word of a supposed Beyoncé and Jay Z album has been pinned on the minds of many for a long time. As the #B6 countdown rolls on, it would be fitting for the royal music couple to give out a “Drunk In Love” follow-up.
Nas
In a chat with REVOLT back in 2013, Timbaland divulged info about a Nas collaboration featuring Jay Z and Justin Timberlake. The producer said the song was titled “Sinatra In the Sand” and would appear on Esco’s as-yet-titled album. While talking to Huffington Post in 2014, Nas confirmed the collab, stating, “Those are the guys who lasted the test of time, and those guys are at the top of their game. They’re just company to be in. So that’s the whole vibe of that. And of course the title says it all.”
The Lox
How does one follow-up a song like “Reservoir Dogs?” After the two acts were snapped at the Roc Nation offices, speculation has ran through the roof that Jay will once again spit with The Lox on a record together.
T.I.
In addition to teaming with Tidal, T.I. confirmed a few months back that he and Jay are working on something for Da Time Trap.
Soon come!
