Jeff Hamilton Discusses Drake's "Farewell Mamba" Jacket & Kobe Bryant

  /  04.12.2016

Designer and merchandiser Jeff Hamilton stopped by REVOLT to reminisce about his beautifully-designed leather jackets, which you’ve probably seen most recently on Drake during NBA All-Star Weekend and in the past on Shaq and Kobe Bryant after an NBA Finals win.

The Los Angeles-based fashion entrepreneur also reflected Kobe’s career and the significant history behind his masterpieces.

“I was in the locker room with him. He was crying and very emotional,” Jeff explained about the picture above. He described the jacket as instant gratification, equivalent to a championship ring. “The ring takes four to five months to get, where the jacket was right there.”

Jeff explained the process behind making his jackets, which he constructs not only for star athletes like Michael Jordan and Muhammad Ali, but also for musicians, including Cam’Ron, Michael Jackson and Guns N’ Roses’ Slash.

For the Mamba jacket that Drake wore, OVO affiliate Tommy Campos reached out to Jeff via Instagram for the project. Jeff had sold his company, however, and had to do some work to gain permission from both the NBA and the Jordan Brand.

After months of sketching and designing the jacket he then added elements to cater to Kobe Bryant’s last season in the NBA with the quote “Farewell Mamba.” Although Jeff never got a chance to meet Drake in person, the jacket was a perfect fit. Swish.
