Known to help fund artists, creators, and off-the-ground start-ups, Kickstarter has now acquired Drip as their first company venture. This marks the first acquisition for Kickstarter, as Drip announced it was planning to shut down on March 18.
Drip is an inspired community of independent artists, record labels, and audiences who support their work directly. Launched five years ago by Ghostly International founder, Sam Valenti IV, and partner Miguel Senquiz, many of today’s most respected and creative independent labels can be found on Drip’s streaming platform. Including high profile indie imprints Stones Throw Records, Dirtybird Records, Fool’s Gold Records, Now-Again, Morr Music, Domino Records, and Valenti’s label Ghostly International.
Despite the shift in ownership, Kickstarter and Drip plan to keep the platform as true to form. “Our commitment to serving creators is hardcoded into our missions, and will continue to guide us. In other ways, we’re excited to discover where it leads,” Kickstarter announced in a press release. “Miguel will join the team here at Kickstarter. Together we’ll all be able to serve creators, creativity, and our communities more powerfully. This is just the beginning.”
In the meantime, if you aren’t familiar with Drip’s artists and services, check it out and maybe even find an artist you’re inspired to support.
