A major deal is taking place in the music industry as it was revealed last night (March 14) that Sony is set to buy Michael Jackson’s half of the lucrative Sony/ATV Music Publishin for an estimated $750 million.

Jackson purchased the ATV catalog for $41.5 million in 1985, a move that stunned Paul McCartney (Beatles music is a part of the publishing) and the business at large.

Sony will now have total control of the Sony/ATV Music Publishing group, to go along with their purchase of EMI Music Publishing, and continue to be led by Martin Bandier, the long-time publishing czar.
