UPDATE: The Slim Shady LP Cassette + T-shirt is now available for $40 on pre-order here.
Music and history go hand-in-hand. With artists, fashion, and timeless collectibles constantly evolving full circle, Eminem now plans to bridge that gap with the re-release to his 1999 album The Slim Shady on cassette. The Detroit rapper hasn’t gave a specific release date other than “coming soon” on his Twitter announcement Friday (March 4).
His Grammy award-winning album with Aftermath Records included notable hits “My Name Is,” “Role Model” and “Guilty Conscience” featuring Dr. Dre. While there’s been a spike in anniversary albums turning vinyl, it’s rare to see an artist take it further with the vintage format such as cassette tapes.
The news comes as Eminem has been laying relatively low as late, but is scheduled to perform at three upcoming South American Lollapalooza festivals, kicking off with Sao Paulo, Brazil on March 12.
