There'll Be More Music Festivals This Summer Than Ever But Will Fans Enjoy?

Consider it safe to say the festival market is on its way to becoming over saturated—if it already isn’t. So, how do you stop that from happening? #SaveSummerFestivals…please? Get ready.

By now you’ve probably heard about L.A.’s latest proposal for a fall festival or Panorama, a three-night festival to be held in New York this summer (also dubbed the East Coast Coachella).

More festivals, more fun? More like more festivals, more problems.

To the average festivalgoer, it’s a great time minus the overpriced waters. A few recreational drugs here and some stellar performances there, there, and way over there. But putting together a festival, nonetheless keeping one going year in and year out, is not as peachy as it may seem.

Let’s take a look at the prominent Rock The Bells, which reigned for 10 years before diminishing in to festival heaven after completing only two of its four scheduled shows in 2013. And why? A lack of ticket sales.

The truth is that no matter how much of a summer festival junkie a person is, no one wants to keep dishing out money to watch the same person they just saw on tour about a week ago. *Hits the shmoney.

So what now? Two words. Season passes.

Like an pair of sports/theme park season passes, a pair of summer festival passes would guarantee entree to x amount of festivals. Whether they should be grouped into categories by location and/or popularity is up to the big dogs. We’re just presenting this (amazing) option to the table. And to spice things up a bit, why not include one overpriced water per show?
