VH1 To Turn 'The Breaks' Into TV Series

  /  02.16.2016

It was the cliffhanger that left everyone puzzled. Does DeeVee find success after his big break? What happens to Ahm? How does Nikki Jones handle her new position as Barry Foray’s assistant? This and plenty more questions were left out in the open once the credits rolled out at the end of VH1’s film “The Breaks.”

The answers may soon arrive in the next phase of “The Breaks,” which has been ordered as a television series by VH1.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, VH1 has picked up the hip-hop drama as a series for premiere later this year.

Written, directed and executive produced by Seith Mann (The Wire), while inspired by Dan Charna’s book, “The Big Payback,” Breaks tells the story of the hip-hop business. The film’s narrative follows three friends pursuing their hip-hop dreams in New York City during the early ’90s era. Wood Harris (Barry Fouray), Mack Wilds (DeeVee), Afton Williamson (Nikki Jones), David Call (David Aaron), and Antoine Harris (Ahmed “Ahm” Harris) make up the cast in the television movie. Most of the cast are expected to return for the series.

The film’s January premiere (and immediate encore) generated a combined 2.6 million total viewers.
