“This is for Hip-Hop,” said Kendrick Lamar as he accepted the award for Best Rap Album tonight (February 15) at the 58th annual Grammy Awards. “This is for Snoop Dogg for Doggystyle, this is for Nas for Illmatic, this is for hip-hop. We will live forever, believe that!”
As if having the instrumental to “How Much A Dollar Cost” play along while Ice Cube presented the award wasn’t enough of a hint, the Compton rapper picked up the Grammy for Best Rap Album with last year’s critically-acclaimed To Pimp A Butterfly.
He was greeted with a standing ovation from stars like Adele, Taylor Swift, Don Cheadle and more.
This is the fifth award for the TDE lyricist tonight, as he picked up awards for Best Rap Solo Performance (“Alright”), Best Rap/Sung Collaboration (“These Walls”), Best Rap Song (“Alright”), and Best Music Video (Taylor Swift’s “Bad Blood”).
