NYFW 2016: Yeezy Season, Beyoncé & Military Means
Maybe it’s no coincidence a military theme is emerging.
This New York Fashion Week, by far, has been surrounded by a fanatical energy unlike the years passed. For many decades both the fashion and entertainment industries have benefitted off of one another’s influence in popular culture. This year is a bit different, as one of hip-hop culture’s musical titans, Kanye West, put on a show that made history. Hosting his collection viewing and album listening party simultaneously at Madison Square Garden among 18,000 fans and every A-Lister imaginable in entertainment.

For many years black artists have served as a major fashion muse resulting in countless endorsements and collaborations. The initiative has always been to reach the youth while incorporating street culture.
The fashion world has experienced a shift, reminiscent of the historical Sean John debut, with the inclusion of ultra famous artist creating collections that can compete in the marketplace. What will encourage consumers to purchase some of these items is their personal connection to each story. True fashion mavens look at presentation and inspiration before committing to an item. Most notable this season is the military trend that seems to continue to revive itself.
Premiering on the heels of Beyoncé’s bold politically-driven Super Bowl performance, I argue that maybe art is imitating life in this moment. Across the world there is turmoil in many countries. Right here we have our own social issues, this possibly serves as the leading inspiration behind this trendy militia gear.
