Going further, while referencing his recent star-studded studio session with Kirk Franklin, Ye mentioned, “When I was sitting up in the studio with Kirk and going through [the album], I said, “This is a gospel album with a whole lot of cursing on it, but’s it’s still a gospel album.””
“[It’s] the gospel according to Ye,”” he clarified, before hinting at a possible theme, “It’s not exactly what happened in the bible, but it’s a story of this idea of Mary Magdalene becoming Mary.”
As far as the much-debated album title, which was believed to be Waves, Kanye revealed the LP is currently nameless and confirmed that Kim Kardashian’s recent Twitter poll was research.
“I wanted to get people’s opinion on how they felt,” he shared. “What I’ve really come to realize about being a celebrity or a musician or someone that’s on the other side of the Internet or other side of the T.V. is that everybody is our family… and so we are everyone’s family. So I feel like what’s really cool about when people can tweet or comment or chime in or say the vibrations they felt about something is that we can have this continuous conversation.”
He also addressed the since resolved feud with Wiz Khalifa, which he admitted was a misunderstanding. “I just want to show I’m a family man,” he said. “The people who felt a way about the kids comment, I didn’t mean it in a harmful way.”
In regards to Drake’s pool line from “Summer Sixteen,” the G.O.O.D. man responded “I have three pools.”
Kanye’s as-yet-titled album is set to be released on February 11 with a big reveal taking place the at Madison Square Garden. Tickets to the show and pre-order for the LP are available now.
