On ANTI, Rihanna turned heads with her cover of Tame Impala’s “New Person, Same Old Mistakes.” The song, which originally appeared on the band’s 2015 album Currents, gets an update from Rih Rih on the LP standout “Same Ol’ Mistakes.”
As the new version of the song gave many Tame Impala fans the urge to re-listen to the original, the band’s management gave a statement to NME about how the cover came into fruition.
“The Roc Nation [Rihanna’s management] team got in touch with us here at Spinning Top letting us know that Rihanna loved the Tame Impala track ‘New Person, Same Old Mistakes’. They asked if she could cover the song for her new record,” the statement read. “Kevin (Parker) was more than happy to send it her way. We’re all really happy with how the song turned out, love it.”
