Rumor or not, Kanye West covering a tribute album to David Bowie, would oddly enough make sense.

Granted, the daggers and naysayers would argue against it, but realistically, there is not another artist who is as unpredictable and musically experimental than Kanye. To be fair, this is the man who initiated a sales race with 50 Cent at the peak of his fame, blatantly disregarded our former president, has collaborative work with the every genre’s leading musician, gave sneaker-heads a new hype, and can spark a headline almost simultaneously with just about everything he endorses.

The fact is, though, that West is the closest we have to Bowie in the modern mainstream. And for the alleged tribute album, reports describe, “Some are straightforward cover versions with Kanye actually singing. On others he is rapping with his own lyrics over Bowie’s music. He is determined to carry on David’s work as a musical innovator. He says that the torch has been passed to him.”

However, the internet isn’t too happy about him moving forward with it, as people have signed a petition to stop him from treading on iconic material. The claims are yet to be verified by Kanye’s team and, if the wait for SWISH is anything to go by, we could be waiting a long time before this one sees the light of day.
