Tidal, the music streaming service backed by Jay Z, Coldplay’s Chris Martin and Deadmau5, among other A-list artists, has announced the hiring of a new CEO, Jeff Toig.
The longtime digital executive has held stints at SoundCloud and Muve Music before taking the Tidal post, which makes him the company’s third chief executive in only 9 months.
The hiring was first announced by Billboard, who also sat with Toig to discusss the gig.
“At a high level, this was a great opportunity to do something differentiated here,” Toig explained. “Jay Z and the artist-owners are deeply committed to Tidal and the vision they have for the business.”
Throughout the interview, Toig talks about the streaming business at large, though he doesn’t go into much detail about Tidal’s future, only offering that he will start next month and that Jay Z is committed to the venture long term.
