About a week after sharing her new song “Borders,” M.I.A. dropped the music video for the single on Apple Music.
She uses the striking visual to take a stand in the escalating global refugee crisis while extending her support.
“Borders. What’s up with that? Politics. What’s up with that? Police shots. What’s up with that? Identities. What’s up with that?” she asks. “Your privilege. What’s up with that? Broke people. What’s up with that? Boat people. What’s up with that?”
The British star can be seen, in the self-directed video, performing alongside refugees who are crammed on a boat or climbing barbed wire fences.
She dedicated the visual to her Uncle Bala, who she described on Twitter as her “icon and role model” on Friday (November 27).
The record is off her forthcoming fifth studio album Matahdatah. Watch the powerful visual below.
