On last night’s BBC Radio 1 Benji show, Arca dropped by to debut tracks off his forthcoming sophomore album Mutant.
Better known for his signature experimental palette, the Venezuelan producer has been making quite a presence behind the boards, while working alongside the biggest names Björk, Kanye West and FKA Twigs. Following his debut project Xen, Arca premiered four new tracks ahead of the album’s release date next week, including “Snakes,” “Front Load,” “Gratitude,” and “Faggot.”
“I’m proud of being a faggot,” Arca said, explaining the ownership behind the taboo slur.
As for the vision and process behind the album, he shared, “I had no plan or ambition to make another record one year after the previous, but it just kind of happened spontaneously.” He also added the project is “about celebration” and is “a lot more social” than his previous release. Arca also debuted the strings-only rendition of Björk’s “Lionsong” and revealed that “Snakes” was inspired by the her free-will creativity.
