Allen Toussaint, a versatile musician whose credits including working with Paul McCartney, in addition to scores of local New Orleans acts, passed away yesterday (November 9). He was 77.

His death was confirmed by his daughter, who he leaves behind, along with an immense legacy.

Toussaint first came to prominence for his contributions to New Orleans R&B, where he became fixture on the scene. Later in his career, his talents were featured in collaborations with pop stars such as Elvis Costello. Since Hurricane Katrina 10 years ago, Toussaint had become a New Yorker, where he performed often at Joe’s Pub and toured frequently overseas.
