Rihanna returns to the big screen. Luc Besson, the visionary behind “The Fifth Element,” is headed back to outer space and he’s enlisted a star-studded cast to join him along the trek. After announcing Cara Delevigne, Dane DeHaan and Clive Owen to star in “Valérian and the City of a Thousand Planets,” Bad Gal Ri Ri has now signed on to share the screen. Her role has yet to be specified, but Besson, who also is the filmmaker behind “Lucy” and “The Professional,” shared the news on his Instagram account and made note, it’s a big one.

At San Diego Comic-Con earlier this year, Besson shared the concept for his upcoming risky sci-fi adaptation through art installations and simulated stills. Inspired by James Cameron’s “Avatar,” Besson has said to have scrapped his original script and only include five parts for humans, with the rest of the cast made up of alien species.

Filming begins in France next January, at Besson’s mega-studio housed at the Cite du Cinema in Saint-Denis, and is expected to hit theaters next July.
