Afrika Bambaataa and Mark Ronson will be honored at the 2015 Global Spin Awards with the Lifetime Achievement Award and Breaking Barriers Award, respectively.
The honors were announced today (October 28) ahead of the GSA broadcast, which will be televised November 24th on REVOLT.
“It is an honor and privilege to recognize two respected and influential visionaries that have contributed some of the industry’s most innovative sounds and bodies of work,” Shawn Prez, Founder of the Global Spin Awards, said in a statement. “Their tremendous accomplishments and level of passion for their craft have resulted in the creation of two timeless legacies that will continue to influence generations to come.”
Bambaataa is a hip-hop icon who helped introduce hip-hop as a culture with his breakbeat DJ style and influential record “Planet Rock.” The Bronx native follows in the footsteps of Funkmaster Flex, Kid Capri, DJ Premier and Marley Marl as past GSA Lifetime Achievement honorees.
Ronson, a British native, rose from an influential party DJ in Manhattan to become a superstar producer who powered hits by Amy Winehouse, Ghostface Killah and Bruno Mars.
Tune in to the Global Spin Awards on November 24th at 8:00 p.m. ET hosted by Swizz Beatz.
