Alabama Shakes is the sound of today’s rock ‘n’ soul. Introducing a unique blare of smashing production riffs and crusading vocals, frontwoman Brittany Howard has now been named Billboard’s 2015 Women in Music “Powerhouse” artist. Joining Lady Gaga to round-out the list’s top honors, and following last year’s “Powerhouse” artist Jessie J., the soulful rock singer will accept her award on December 11 at Billboard’s annual Women in Music ceremony.

“Brittany Howard is the true definition of a powerhouse, from her unique and crushing vocals, to her meteoric rise in the last four years,” said Janice Min, co-president and chief creative officer of Guggenheim Media’s Entertainment Group, which consists of Billboard and The Hollywood Reporter. “She led Alabama Shakes to a massive year that included their Coachella debut and is quite deserving of Billboard’s recognition.”

Following the release of Alabama Shakes’ twice charted album Sound & Color debuting at No. 1, along with Brittany Howard’s moniker solo recording Thunderbitch, the torch singer is unapologetically setting the tone for grassroots blues that we all can appreciate.
