Kanye is not just trying to take over the fashion world , he’s trying to take over the entire world.
The Yeezy Season 2 fashion show took place during NYFW yesterday (September 17) and was streamed live to theater audiences in 36 major cities in the U.S. and U.K. Ruffling feathers earlier in the week with his unexpected addition to the NYFW schedule, Kanye’s desire to be taken seriously as an artist make itself abundently clear with his second Fashion Week offering.
While the Kardashian Klan, of course, was in the building, other celebrities including Drake, 2 Chainz, and Vogue Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour also showed their support.
Thanks to the live stream and some of our friends on Periscope we were able to catch the fashion show and come to a conclusion.
The minimalist silhouettes, light to dark neutral colorway, and ragged labor worker look spoke to ideologies that Kanye preaches on whenever given the chance: class stratification, the oppressed working class, and social equality. Kanye chose to send the models out in groups opposed to individually, which could also signify different social class structures.
The beige color choice relinquished a lose for hope or life foreseen by model Ian Connor who smokes a cigarette during the show. The military style runway walk gave way to the control that media and politics seem to have on society. Kanye debuted a new track, titled, “Fade (I Feel It),” where the rapper expresses his feelings about someone’s love fading away. So what could be fading away Kanye?
It’s safe to say that he is ahead of his time and whatever he is trying to tell us we are definitely listening.
