After yesterday’s announcement regarding Freddie Gray’s family receiving a proposed settlement of $6.4 million, the city of Baltimore has officially approved the deal.

Gray suffered a fatal spinal injury while he was arrested and transported in a Baltimore police van in April.

The settlement doesn’t suggest or “represent any judgment” on the guilt or innocence of the six police officers charged in the case, said Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake. “This settlement represents an opportunity to bring closure to the Gray family, the community and the city.”
