Big Sean may have been on a chill vibe while dressing for Sunday night’s VMAs, but it seemed like John Legend — in his tailored blazer — knew better. Donning a simple jean jacket and combat boots, the Detroit rapper took the stage to accept his — and Legend’s — first VMA ever for their introspective track “One Man Can Change The World” from Sean’s latest LP Dark Sky Paradise. The award went to Big Sean, Kanye West and John Legend for the Best Video With A Social Message.

Visibly moved, the MC was sure to thank his grandmother, crediting her for teaching him that humanity was capable of creating real change, one person at a time.
