Julia Holter, “Sea Calls Me Home”
Los Angeles based singer, songwriter and producer Julia Holter is gearing up for the September 25th release of her new album Have You In My Wilderness. The project serves as a follow up to 2013’s acclaimed Loud City Song. Today, she is teasing the LP with a cut titled “Sea Calls Me Home.” The California waters are her home, but she won’t be there for long since once her North American tour starts in about a month. Julia’s 10-track effort discusses “love, trust, and power in human relationships” and was recorded with Grammy-winning producer Cole Greif-Neill.
Chinah, “We Go Back”
If you don’t know who Chinah are yet, it’s ok, consider this an intro. The female-fronted trio makes music that falls somewhere between electronic music and R&B. It’s mellow and even gives us a bit of the AlunaGeorge/ Solange feel. Last month they released their debut track “Away From Me.” It’s the kind of thing you can rock out to on a mellow Sunday from beginning to end.
Natalie Prass, “Why Don’t You Believe In Me” & “Never Over You”
Natalie Prass released both “Never Over You” and “Why Don’t You Believe In Me” earlier in the year, but she gave the songs a bit of extra life when she recently performed the tracks on a terrace next to a busy pedestrian intersection. It was a performance for the French blog La Blogothèque’s webseries “Takeaway Show” and it was pretty awesome. The track is reminiscent of the Tony award-winning broadway play and film Once.
