A New York mayoral candidate has received a big endorsement from three hip hop titans. Last week, Diddy, JAY-Z and Nas all endorsed Ray McGuire in his run to be the next mayor of New York City.

To express their support for McGuire, who is running against former presidential candidate Andrew Yang, the three New York-bred rappers teamed up to release a video call endorsing his campaign.

“We need to realize that New York is in a state of emergency. New York could be the first city that really does something bold to take care of the people,” Diddy said in the clip. “Through those 30 years, no matter where we were at, outside [or] wherever we were at, Ray was always talking about the people.”

Hov added, “People come from all over the world like, ‘I got a chance. I got a chance to make it here. If I can make it here, I can make it anywhere.’ And that’s what we’re trying to protect. It’s the idea of New York and New York being what hope is.”

“Somewhere along the line, the ball got dropped,” noted Nas. “It’s all about a racial divide, when we’re the most diverse city in the world. The city is broken and I haven’t heard anyone say anything about it. Everything Ray’s saying is everything I wanna hear.”

Radio legend and certified “Voice of New York,” Angie Martinez, also appeared in the clip.

McGuire is a native of Dayton, Ohio who moved to New England to attend the prestigious Connecticut prep school, Hotchkiss School. He later pursued higher education at Harvard College and relocated to New York to work on Wall Street and run managerial positions at Citigroup and Morgan Stanley.

Besides Yang, McGuire is also running against Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams and former MSNBC legal analyst Maya Wiley for mayor. The Democratic primary will be held on June 22.
