Players of the Atlanta Dream WNBA team continued to get out the vote on Monday (Jan. 4) one day before Georgia voters would head to the polls for the state’s Senate runoff elections. In a new More Than A Vote campaign video, players Tiffany Hayes, Renee Montgomery, Elizabeth Williams and Courtney Williams stressed the importance of voting in today’s election (Jan. 5).

“There are moments that make or break us,” Hayes narrated in the clip.

“There are moments that challenge us,” Williams added.

“And there are moments that make history,” Montgomery continued.

“And this moment chose us,” an unnamed player said. “It was not of our choosing, but we answered. We answered with our voice; we answered with our hearts; we answered with our actions and strength.”

The video didn’t mention any particular candidates by name, but several Atlanta Dream players have been vocal opponents of the team’s co-owner Kelly Loeffler since the summer. The Republican senator previously drew criticism from the team and other WNBA athletes after she spoke out against the Black Lives Matter movement.

Loeffler also criticized the league’s introduction of “Say Her Name” patches on players’ jerseys, a statement that referred to Breonna Taylor and other Black women killed by police.

In August, players on the Atlanta Dream and Phoenix Mercury also wore “Vote Warnock” t-shirts, endorsing Loeffler’s Democratic opponent, Raphael Warnock. Loeffler is running for reelection against Warnock, while Republican Sen. David Purdue is opposed by Democrat Jon Ossoff. With both seats up for a vote, today’s election will decide which party controls the Senate.

Georgia previously set an all-time high voting record during November’s general election, with over four million ballots counted. According to Georgia Votes, more than three million absentee votes have already been cast in today’s runoff election.
