The world got extremely devastating news on Friday (Aug. 28) evening when news broke that Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman passed away at age 43 after losing a battle with cancer.

For millions around the world, especially Black people, Boseman was an incredible figure who was loved and revered for his role as T’Challa in the Marvel Universe movie. It broke countless amounts of records and became an immediate staple in the cinema industry.

According to AP Style, the actor died at his Los Angeles home. His wife and other members of his family were by his side at the time, his publicist Nicki Fioravante told the news outlet.

In a statement, Boseman’s family confirmed that he was secretly battling colon cancer after first learning of his diagnosis four years ago.

“A true fighter, Chadwick persevered through it all, and brought you many of the films you have come to love so much,” his family said in the statement. “From Marshall to Da 5 Bloods, August Wilson’s Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom and several more - all were filmed during and between countless surgeries and chemotherapy. It was the honor of his career to bring King T’Challa to life in Black Panther.

Not only did Boseman star in a number of incredible movies, but he also appeared in many TV shows during his career such as “All My Children” and much more.

Boseman even attended the inaugural REVOLT Summit in 2019 and spoke to the youth about his career. “It’s important as an actor that you’re not just a person who says a line,” he told the audience who looked up to him. “You have to be ready to fight for the things that you want.”

REVOLT would like to send out condolences to Boseman, his family, friends and colleagues at this time. Rest in power, King.
