The widow of Rayshard Brooks is speaking out about the boycotts that have taken place throughout multiple sports following the shooting of Jacob Blake.

Tomika Miller spoke to TMZ to express her happiness about the recent boycotts, which started in the NBA. “I’m very proud about this, very excited and happy because it let’s people know that people who are more seen and more in the frontlines do care about the little people like me and the other victims that have been hurt — who don’t have very many opportunities to speak out or really show that what is going on needs to stop.”

She continued, “If I was to quit a job that I had, it probably wouldn’t matter much, but for the NBA to stop what they’re doing — oh it matters. It touched home. It means a lot and words can’t explain how appreciative I am about what’s going on and what they’re doing.”

Brooks was shot and killed on June 12 after law enforcement responded to a 911 call stating that he fell asleep in his car at a Wendy’s drive-thru. He reportedly failed a sobriety test and officers tried to take him into custody. He resisted and reportedly stole one of their tasers. While running away from the officers, he was shot and killed.

Former officer Garrett Rolfe was charged with a total of 11 charges including felony murder and multiple counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. The other cop on the scene, Devin Brosnan, was charged with one count of aggravated assault and two counts of violating his oath.

Miller says she has hope that the boycotts will create change. “I have hope that this will work — this will do something,” she added. “If not too much, it will do a little much — if that makes sense. It will do just enough to show people that everybody counts in taking a part in what’s going on.”
