Back in June, Anderson .Paak teamed up with Jay Rock to deliver a new collaboration titled “Lockdown,” which centered around the systemic racism and subsequent demonstration that the country has been witnessing over the past few months. Over the weekend, .Paak unearthed a bundle release featuring instrumental and acapella versions of “Lockdown,” along with the radio and video edits of the Anderson .Paak and J.LBS-produced cut. In addition, fans can now enjoy a remixed version that features additional assistance from J.I.D and Noname, who both add to the atmosphere of the song with their own bars of African liberation and reparations:

“Maybe this Round Two, government cinematic, American drive-thru, eat their apple pie in the morning then bury the strange fruit/

Then marry the strange fruit and call it the Black love, so when he bleeds, I bleed, the sacred riddle, ain’t no money I can make to make the cops get little/

We seen ‘em murder the indigenous, the Passage Middle The Constitution, a life for a bag of Skittles?/”

In addition to his contributions to Dreamville’s Revenge Of The Dreamers III: Director’s Cut back in January, 2020 has also seen J.I.D collaborating with IDK, Smino, and Spillage Village on the cuts “Cereal,” “Baguetti,” and “End Of Daze,” respectively. Meanwhile, Noname released “Song 33” back in June, which acted as a socially-charged response to J. Cole’s “Snow On Tha Bluff,” which was released days earlier.

Previously, Anderson .Paak connected with Justin Timberlake for the Trolls World Tour: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack. His last album, the well-received Ventura, was released back in 2019 and earned .Paak a top five position on the Billboard 200 thanks to 55,000 album equivalent units sold.
