The Austin Police Department has come under scrutiny after video surfaced showing a male officer allegedly groping a woman’s breasts while performing a search during an arrest.
In the video, the woman, identified as Rosalinda Nuno Trevino, demanded multiple times that she wanted a female officer to search her, but the male officer continued to use his hands to feel under and around her breasts. The unidentified male who filmed the video can be heard yelling, “Don’t you fucking touch her like that!”
The Austin Police Department has issued a statement defending the actions of the officer. “He conducted the search in front of a police vehicle where a vehicle camera could document and at least one other officer was present, as required by APD policy,” the statement reads. They also said that there was no female officer available to search Trevino.
“Ms. Trevino was placed under arrest for the multiple hazardous traffic violations to include, running a red light, failure to yield the right-of-way to pedestrians, improper use of a horn and failure to maintain an assured clear distance,” the statement continued.
The video has since went viral on social media and many people are calling the actions of the officer sexual assault. Activists have taken to Twitter to demand that the officer be terminated from the department.
Twitter user @RiallJohnson tweeted, “Apparently this cop is ‘jUsT fOLloWinG ProCEduRe.’ Sexual assault while handcuffed is legalized for police. Don’t worry, maybe they’ll reform this policy and only allow them to keep getting away with DV, rape and murder.”

“The amount of rape and sexual assault cops commit is disgusting,” tweeted @KadenMontoya. “A cop is caught in a case of sexual assault roughly every 5 days. That’s just the ones getting CAUGHT!! Most cases are not reported at all. Think about it.”
