Although Jagged Edge experienced some technical difficulties during their Verzuz battle on Monday night (May 25) against 112, the epic virtual event undoubtedly left fans of the R&B quartet wanting more. On Tuesday (May 26), one day after their Memorial Day Verzuz showdown, Jagged Edge announced they’d be following up the event with their first album in three years, A Jagged Love Story.
“It’s coming.....” the group teased in an Instagram post, along with the album’s purple cover art and a peep at the tracklist, which includes at least 22 songs.
A Jagged Love Story will mark Jagged Edge’s 10th studio album and serve as a follow-up to 2017’s Layover. Although the group hasn’t offered an official release date yet, A Jagged Love Story is reportedly expected to arrive next month.
Jagged Edge and 112’s Verzuz battle was filled with nostalgic hits from both R&B outfits, including “Wednesday Lover,” “Let’s Get Married,” “Cupid,” “U Already Know,” “I’ll Be Missing You” and more. The showdown also saw surprise appearances from Keith Sweat and Jermaine Dupri, virtual attendees ranging from Diddy to Ja Rule and tributes to the late Prodigy, Notorious B.I.G. and Andre Harrell.
Unfortunately, Jagged Edge experienced sound issues at around the 50-minute mark. In response to this, Verzuz co-founders Swizz Beatz and Timbaland have introduced a new rule for the virtual series.
Speaking on Instagram Live, Swizz revealed that Verzuz participants were supplied with special equipment from electronic music company Roland, which is specifically designed for Instagram live-streaming.
“It works. I think Ludacris used it. You can tell who’s using the set-up and who’s not using the set-up,” Swizz told Timbo. “It’s only a couple of plugs that’s gonna change your life. So 112 was using it, and I don’t think Jagged Edge was using it.”
“Which threw off the frequency of the whole thing, because if one uses it and one don’t, it’s all messed up,” Timbo replied.
“We’re going to make that a forcible rule,” Swizz added, “You cannot do Verzuz unless you use the technology that we’re sending you, because we’re sending it to you for a reason.”
