Georgetown coach Patrick Ewing has tested positive for Coronavirus.

In a statement shared to his Twitter account, Ewing opened up about his diagnosis. “I want to share that I have tested positive for COVID-19. This virus is serious and should not be taken lightly. I want to encourage everyone to stay safe and take care of yourselves and your loved ones” he wrote. “Now more than ever, I want to thank the healthcare workers and everyone on the front lines. I’ll be fine and we will all get through this.”

Towards the end of another statement made on behalf of Georgetown Athletics, the program confirmed that “Ewing is under care and isolated” at a hospital, adding that he was “the only member of the Georgetown men’s basketball program” to test positive for COVID-19.

Following Ewing’s shocking news on social media, his former New York Knicks teammate Charles Oakley shared words of encouragement. “I went to war with you for ten years. I won’t leave you on the battlefield now. Get well Patrick. More fights ahead. @CoachEwing33 #BrothersFight #PatrickEwing #GetWellBrother,” he wrote on Twitter. Former Golden States Warrior player Adonal Foyle also shared a similar sentiment. “Praying for the Big Guy, #PatrickEwing and hoping for a full recovery. You got this, my friend! We’re all pulling for you,” he wrote.

Unfortunately, Coronavirus has affected a myriad of artists and athletes including Idris Elba, Scarface, Fred the Godson, Kevin Durant and more. As a result, many are encouraged to practice social distancing in hopes of preventing the spread of the virus, according to the CDC. More recently, Barack Obama spoke about COVID-19’s impact on the world during his virtual commencement speech to the Class of 2020.

Take a look at the official statement from Patrick Ewing below regarding his Coronavirus diagnosis. Get well soon.
