It’s official. Coachella will not be happening this April, but will instead be postponed to October. Goldenvoice, which helms Coachella Music Festival, Stagecoach Festival and others, confirmed previous reports and announced the news in a statement shared to Instagram on Tuesday (March 10).
“At the direction of the County of Riverside and local health authorities, we must sadly confirm the rescheduling of Coachella and Stagecoach due to COVID-19 concerns,” the message reads. “While this decision comes at a time of universal uncertainty, we take the safety and health of our guests, staff and community very seriously. We urge everyone to follow the guidelines and protocols put forth by public health officials.”
“Coachella will now take place on October 9, 10 and 11 and October 16, 17 and 18, 2020. Stagecoach will take place on October 23, 24 and 25, 2020,” the statement continues. “All purchases for the April dates will be honored for the rescheduled October dates. Purchasers will be notified by Friday, March 13 on how to obtain a refund if they are unable to attend. Thank you for your continued support and we look forward to seeing you in the desert this fall.”
The scheduled performers are still expected to appear at the October festival. This year’s Coachella headliners include Travis Scott, Frank Ocean and Rage Against the Machine. DaBaby, Summer Walker, Megan Thee Stallion, 21 Savage, Lil Uzi Vert, Ari Lennox and more are also set to perform.
The news arrives after neighboring Eisenhower Medical Center revealed on Sunday (March 8) that the facility was caring for a patient with a “presumptive positive for Coronavirus.”
“The patient is in isolation and Eisenhower staff have taken appropriate cautions in the treatment of this patient,” the medical center had announced via Twitter, adding that they would “continue to work closely with Riverside County Public Health, California Department of Public Health and within CDC guidelines.”
Coachella’s rescheduling follows several music and corporate events which have been postponed or canceled this year due to Coronavirus fears, with Austin, TX festival SXSW being canceled last week.
