A Black woman politician is the victim of racist threats after she denounced Rudy Giuliani’s recent allegations of voter fraud, FOX 2 reported. Democrat Rep. Cynthia Johnson of Michigan said she’s being harrassed by Donald Trump supporters who are angered by her comments from a recent hearing.
On Dec. 2, during a hearing with Michigan’s House Oversight Committee, Johnson listened to testimonies from residents who allegedly witnessed deception in the 2020 election. Giuliani was also to present evidence of voter fraud, but he only discussed his thoughts on how Trump lost the state. The lawmaker — who serves as the committee’s vice chair — called him out for spreading misinformation and asked Republican Chairman Matt Hall why they were giving him a platform to lie.
“You’re allowing people to come in here and lie,” Johnson told Hall during the meeting. “And I know they’re lying.
After her remarks, the politician took to Facebook to share audio recordings and screenshots of messages in posts that were also bombarded with menacing comments.
“You should be swinging from a fucking rope, you Democrat,” one voicemail message to Johnson said. “Dems are going down, especially fucking big lipped niggas like you.”
“Go hug a cactus,” read one of the Facebook comments under her post.
“You are a disgrace to the people of our city, and you need to sit your drunk ass down somewhere,” read another Facebook message. “Go jump your crackhead looking ass off the Belle Isle Bridge bitch.”
Despite the plethora of threats she’s received, Johnson told her followers that she is far from worried.
“Trump supporters, I don’t necessarily blame you,” she said in a Facebook Live session on Monday (Dec. 7). “I blame the leadership who has done you wrong. I’m good, I’m OK, I’m not worried. I’m not going underground. I’m not changing my fucking phone number. I ain’t doing none of that.”
