Arkansas police chief resigns after calling for violence against Democrats

“Death to all Marxist Democrats,” Chief Lang Holland wrote. “Take no prisoners leave no survivors!!”

On Saturday (Nov. 7), an Arkansas police chief who called for violence against Democrats following the election resigned from his job.

Local residents in Marshall, Arkansas and people around the country were outraged after learning about Chief Lang Holland’s comments on Parler, a social media app that a lot of conservatives use as an alternative to Twitter. “Death to all Marxist Democrats,” Holland wrote. “Take no prisoners leave no survivors!!”

He also shared memes about the election being stolen and of QAnon, which is a far-right conspiracy theory that the world is run by a powerful group of Satan-worshipping pedophiles, who work to undermine Donald Trump and his actions against them.

In one image, he shared a photo of a group of Democrats — including Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton — wearing prison jumpsuits. He captioned the photo, “I pray all those in that picture hang on the gallows and are drawn and quartered!!!! Anything less is not acceptable.”

On Saturday, Marshall Mayor Kevin Elliott released a statement notifying the public of Holland’s resignation, which was effective immediately. “The City of Marshall strongly condemns the actions of Mr. Holland in his posts to social media,” he wrote. “The Marshall community does not in any way support or condone bullying or threats of violence to anyone of any political persuasion...the Marshall Police force is here to serve and protect EVERYONE.”

The mayor says he was disturbed after hearing about the posts. While he described Holland as a “hero” and someone who was “very, very United States,” he said that his posts were not appropriate. “It’s not acceptable for the City of Marshall,” Elliott said. “We don’t care if you’re Republican or Democrat. You’re a voice and you have a right.”

Earlier this year, Holland made the news when he refused to enforce the state’s COVID-19 mask mandate.
