Biden staffer denies Ice Cube’s claims that Democrats wanted to discuss CWBA after the election

“I like the fact that Ice Cube is getting engaged in policy. However, once you embark on getting into it...you have to be truthful,” Representative Cedric Richmond said.

After members of Donald Trump’s campaign suggested that Ice Cube helped to develop the Platinum Plan, the N.W.A. rapper defended himself, and explained that he’d had conversations with both the Democratic and Republican parties about his Contract with Black America.

“Facts: I put out the CWBA,” he tweeted on at the time. “Both parties contacted me. Dems said we’ll address the CWBA after the election. Trump campaign made some adjustments to their plan after talking to us about the CWBA.”

Less than two weeks later, the Democrats have responded to Cube’s statements. During an interview on SiriusXM’s “The Joe Madison Show,” Representative Cedric Richmond, the co-chair of Biden’s campaign, addressed claims that the Democratic Party asked to discuss the contract at a later time.

“Let me be crystal clear. That did not happen,” he began. “I like the fact that Ice Cube is getting engaged in policy. I think that is a good thing, however, once you embark on getting into it...you have to be truthful, but...you have an obligation, I think, to see it through and to be thorough with it.”

He then explained that he told Cube his contract was “not as comprehensive” as Biden’s plan for Black America, and let the rapper know he could contact the Democrats to discuss any pressing matters.

“Our plan is very thorough. I won’t say he has a skeleton plan, but he has an outline of things that should be done,” Richmond said. “It’s not as comprehensive as our plan, and so that’s what we told him. The offer to stay engaged was not ‘we’ll talk to you after the election.’ It went like this: ‘Here’s my cell number. Anything else you want to talk about on this plan or anything you think, you know, we need to talk about further, just pick up the phone and call.’”

Richmond added that Cube speaking to the Republicans about the importance of the CWBA was not “a bad thing” or an endorsement, but stated that it does “give credibility to Donald Trump’s ridiculous plan.”
